A flight attendant from PIA was apprehended while attempting to smuggle cellphones from Canada.

Upon his arrival at the Islamabad airport from Canada on flight PK-782, PIA flight steward Faisal Majeed was apprehended with 16 high-end smartphones, according to the details.

During the customs inspection, Majeed was discovered to have his phones encased around his body. The PIA staffer was issued a show-cause notice to respond within three days following the incident.

The show-cause notice stated that “your actions have tarnished the reputation of PIA.” It also stated that failure to provide a satisfactory response will result in termination from the service.

Pakistan Customs successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle mobile phones valued at millions at Jinnah International Airport Karachi in May 2023.

The spokesperson for Customs stated that the International Departure was occupied with the inspection of passengers from foreign countries.

The staff was provided with credible information regarding an attempt to smuggle iPhones during the procedure. They enhanced the screening procedure, which resulted in the detention of passengers who had arrived in Karachi from Dubai.

The Customs staff examined the baggage of the passenger during the surveillance and recovered over 35 mobile phones, including the iPhone XS and X-max, which are estimated to be worth approximately Rs10 million.

The passenger was filed a case against due to his failure to provide the customs personnel with his tax information.
