An audit shows that the PIA engineering department has lost more than Rs22 billion.

Over Rs22 billion in losses have been discovered in the engineering sector of Pakistan International Airlines by the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP).
The audit report states that grounded airplanes are responsible for more than Rs14 billion of the loss. Delays in maintenance inspections and the failure to promptly dispose of malfunctioning engines caused the financial deficit. Two ATR-72 aircraft that were leased and six Boeing 777 aircraft were part of the fleet.
The Boeing plane was grounded from March 11, 2020, to March 1, 2021. The engines of 25 extra permanently grounded aircraft caused an additional Rs6 billion in losses, according to the assessment.
The parking fees paid to the Civil Aviation Authority for these inactive planes were estimated to have cost Rs3 billion separately.
The Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) was supposed to meet in January 2025, but it never happened.
