Aurat March: LHC requests a response about the contempt plea from the district administration
On Wednesday, the Lahore High Court asked the district administration to respond to a contempt allegation pertaining to the Aurat March.
The hearing on the petition of activists Shereen Umair, Neelam Hussain, Fatima Jaan, and Leena Ghani was presided over by Justice Anwaar Hussain.
Muhammad Usman, the assistant advocate general, represented the Punjab government.
The petitioners asked the court to rule that the deputy commissioner of Lahore had not decided on their request for authorisation to hold the Aurat March.
DIG operations, the deputy commissioner, and the CTO of Lahore were the targets of the contempt petition.
Advocate Zeeshan Zafar maintained that no citizen can be barred from holding peaceful protest.

“The applications were moved to deputy commissioner on January 10 and 14 seeking permission to hold a rally on February 12 from Lahore Press Club to Egerton Road,” Advocate Zeeshan Zafar told the court.
“The deputy commissioner isn’t responding on the application on purpose,” the attorney informed the court.
The court was requested to summon the deputy commissioner and other officials concerned in person.
Justice Anwaar Hussain asked why the Aurat March matter was brought up so often in court.
In response to the contempt plea, the court later asked DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza to respond till February 3.
