Bushra Gohar objects to suggested constitutional amendments
Through Attorney Ali Gauhar Durrani, Bushra Gohar filed the petition. Respondents to the petition include the federal government and the Ministry of Law.
The petition demands public release of the proposed constitutional modifications. If the public has issues, the petitioner requested that they be addressed through consultation.
Bushra Gohar went on to say that time was allocated for public opinion to be heard by the committee that was constituted to study the 18th Amendment. It adds that more than eight hundred recommendations were made throughout the drafting of the 18th Amendment.
Earlier, the Supreme Court (SC) received a fresh petition contesting constitutional revisions.
Specifics state that Advocate Saeem Chaudhry filed the Supreme Court petition against the constitutional revisions.
The petition seeks to declare Article 179, which deals with judges’ retirement age, to be an essential component of the Constitution.
It also asked for a finding saying the administration could not tamper with the judiciary’s neutrality and independence.
The petition demands the nullification of the constitutional amendments, arguing that they infringe upon the independence of the court, the Constitution, and fundamental rights.
