China consents to converting three power stations to run on locally mined coal.
According to sources, Energy Minister Owais Leghari and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb are currently in China.
These power facilities, which produce some of Pakistan’s most expensive electricity, include the 1,320 MW Sahiwal Coal Power Plant, the 1,320 MW Hub Power Plant, and the 1,320 MW Port Qasim Power Plant.
According to sources, Chinese officials have also responded favourably to the re-profiling of these coal-fired power facilities, guaranteeing a switch to domestic coal.
According to sources disclosed, the two nations have also determined on the next measures needed to move the conversion process from imported to domestic coal.
According to sources, the conversion and re-profiling of these power facilities would be a topic of discussion at future meetings between Pakistani and Chinese authorities.
