Commercial generators that generate smoke have been banned by Lahore High Court.
The Lahore High Court has taken action against air pollution by banning the operation of commercial generators that generate smoke in certain “green lockdown” zones.
After hearing citizen petitions, including those of Haroon Farooq, to reduce air pollution, Justice Shahid Karim mandated that commercial generators be equipped with pollution control systems within seven days.
The sealed generators shall be kept under wraps until these pollution-control systems are put in place, according to the court’s written order from the hearing the day before.
If we want better air quality and less pollution from traffic, Justice Karim said we have to remove encroachments in problem regions.
Noting that the current administration and the director general of environment are doing the right thing, the court praised their efforts and said they will improve environmental conditions. The court took note of the public prosecutor’s statement that farmers were given superseeds as a measure to reduce crop burning in the written ruling.
Also, the underpass renovations investigation report’s conclusions should be implemented by the Lahore Development Authority’s (LDA) DG within 15 days, and the Lahore Division commissioner should report on the operations of the Kasur tanneries within that time. The hearing is postponed until this coming Friday.
