Due to reports of “unrest,” Rawalpindi DC imposes Section 144.
The decision was made during a meeting of the district intelligence committee, which Rawalpindi DC Hassan Waqar Cheem headed.
The committee was shown the proof of “unrest” in the area of Adiala Jail and in several areas of Rawalpindi during the hearing. In response, the Rawalpindi DC implemented Section 144 in the region till November 26.
The warning stated that due to reports of “unrest,” “extremism,” and “terrorism,” public meetings, rallies, and gatherings of more than four individuals have been prohibited in Rawalpindi.
Notably, PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently jailed, called for nationwide rallies on November 24.
In a different development, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) offered “conditions” to negotiate the withdrawal of its protest call on November 24.
The sources stated that the PTI called for Imran Khan, the founder of the party, to receive immediate treatment. They stated, “The PTI is prepared to cancel the protest in exchange for relief to its founder.”
The party demanded Imran Khan’s immediate release and the dismissal of all “fabricated” charges against him.
“Imran Khan should be transferred to Peshawar Jail if legal proceedings delay his release,” according to one of the PTI’s requirements.
The party further demanded that other leaders who were detained in different jails be released immediately.
According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, talks regarding the protest on November 24 will only begin after the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
