During the PTI protest, mobile and internet access are likely to be suspended.
The suspension may impact several districts in Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to reports.
According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) sources, firewalls would be turned on starting November 22 to reduce internet speeds and affect social media apps, stopping mobile internet access.
According to insiders, authorities may even decide to prohibit cellphone and internet services in particular areas, depending on the circumstances.
In the past, section 144 was implemented in Rawalpindi due to allegations of “unrest” preceding the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demonstration.
Rawalpindi DC Hassan Waqar Cheem presided over a district intelligence committee meeting when the decision was made.
Rawalpindi has banned public meetings, marches, and gatherings of more than four persons due to reports of “terrorism,” “extremism,” and “unrest.”
Notably, PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently jailed, called for nationwide rallies on November 24.
In a different development, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) offered “conditions” to negotiate the withdrawal of its protest call on November 24.
The sources stated that the PTI called for Imran Khan, the founder of the party, to receive immediate treatment. They stated, “The PTI is prepared to cancel the protest in exchange for relief to its founder.”
The party demanded Imran Khan’s immediate release and the dismissal of all “fabricated” charges against him.
“Imran Khan should be transferred to Peshawar Jail if legal proceedings delay his release,” according to one of the PTI’s requirements.
The party further demanded that other leaders who were detained in different jails be released immediately.
According to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur, talks regarding the protest on November 24 won’t start until PTI founder Imran Khan is freed.
