FBR moves the deadline for filing tax returns to October 15.

In a notice released on September 30, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) formally extended the deadline for submitting income tax returns for the 2025 tax year until October 15.

The action is a dramatic change from the FBR’s position a day earlier, when it firmly denied any extension and reiterated September 30 as the deadline.

According to the notification, the extension was given in order to help taxpayers and respond to repeated requests for additional time from professional groups and business associations.

It is anticipated that the respite will guarantee greater cooperation and lessen last-minute system strain.

The chairman of the Pakistan Chemical & Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA), Salim Valimuhammad, had pleaded with the FBR to extend the reporting date last week, pointing out that companies were having trouble meeting the September 30 deadline.

In order to avoid late filing status or legal fines, taxpayers now have until October 15 to file their forms.
