FBR releases a statement about the deadline extension for filing returns.
According to Bakhtiar Muhammad, a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Revenue, there will be no further extensions and today, October 14, is the deadline for filing income tax reports.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will continue to operate through 12 a.m. tonight in its offices and field formations.
Up until September 30, 2024, 36,60,000 taxpayers filed their tax forms, according to the FBR.
Prior to this, the FBR extended the deadline for submitting income tax returns for the 2024 fiscal year in response to petitions from a number of tax bar groups and trade associations.
The FBR representative went on to say that no additional extensions will be granted beyond October 14, 2024, and that the September 30 extension was only granted because the FBR’s IT system became overburdened.
Instead of waiting for the deadline, he advised everyone to file their returns on time.
The goal of the government’s actions is to encourage tax compliance, which is essential to the stability and expansion of the nation’s economy.
The Federal Board of Revenue representative went on to say that non-filers’ SIMs will be stopped after the deadline and they won’t be allowed to purchase a car or plot.
A briefing on tax collection in September was given to the chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue at the meeting.
It was reported that September’s income tax return collection totaled Rs 1106 billion, exceeding the targeted amount of Rs 1098 billion.
