Following a SC directive, ECP added 93 more PTI legislators to its database.

Six members of the Sindh Assembly, 58 members of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and 29 members of the Sunni Ittehad Council in Punjab are included in the most recent notification from the ECP.

Including the previously recognized 39 members of the National Assembly, this development puts the total number of PTI members formally accepted by the commission to 132.

This judgment is in accordance with a July 12, 2024, order from the Supreme Court. In its decision, the court declared the ECP directive dated March 1 to be unconstitutional, overturning a prior finding by the Peshawar High Court.

Eleven candidates from minority groups and 67 women were on the PTI’s prior list of candidates for reserved seats. Yasmin Rashid, Sanam Javed, and Aliya Hamza Malik are among the well-known individuals on the list.

Furthermore, the National Assembly’s designated seats for women were chosen for Kanwal Shauzab, Rubina Shaheen, and Seemabia Tahir.

The Supreme Court’s ruling has been met with the ECP’s pledge to follow the court’s ruling. Through adherence to legal and constitutional principles, a spokeswoman guaranteed that the commission will handle any implementation issues.

Reaffirming the commission’s function and authority in the electoral process in the face of ongoing legal and political developments, the ECP’s amended recognition is in line with the majority ruling of the court.
