Following their run-in with the police at Garhi Tegho, the bandits depart with the hostages.
“A gang of bandits was engaged by police in the Katcha area of Garhi Tegho. Following a shootout, the bandits fled the scene, leaving a hostage behind,” SSP Shahzaib Chachar informed the media today.
SSP Chachar added, “Police contingents have been sent in the area to search and arrest fleeing dacoits.”
A police and Rangers joint operation in Garhi Tegho last month resulted in the recent death of Fareed Teghani, a prominent Shikarpur dacoit, and the arrest of his accomplice, Malan Mazari Teghani, in critical condition.
According to the police, the deceased criminal was wanted for a number of crimes along the National Highway, including murder and kidnapping for ransom.
Dacoit Fareed Teghani used a honey trap to trick many people into being kidnapped, then demanded ransom, according to a police officer.
The Katcha region is made up of extensive tracts of property on the banks of the Indus River that are mostly held by a few powerful landowners, many of whom are also well-known politicians.
Due to its rough terrain, thick forests, and shrubs, the area has been a hub of illegal activity and has become a shelter for fugitives and outlaws.
