Four more environmental samples have the polio virus found in them.
An anonymous lab official confirmed that Type-1 Wild Poliovirus was detected in Dukki and Killa Saifullah, according to the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institutes of Health.
“Dukki, Killa Saifullah, Sibi, and Swabi are the districts from which positive samples have been reported. This brings the total count of infected districts for the year 2024 to 44,” he continued.
It is been noted that the districts affected are Sibi and Swabi.
The discovery of the virus in samples from the districts of Dera Ismail Khan and Bahawalpur was announced a day ago.
The fourth poliovirus case of the year was reported from Pakistan on Saturday.
In the Shikarpur district of Sindh, a 2-year-old boy from Bharkan union council became the most recent victim.
In addition to stating that the youngster had experienced paralytic symptoms on May 21, the health department official claimed that stool samples from the child had tested positive for the virus.
Since Pakistan had previously reported three cases, this is the fourth instance of polio in 2024. All three of the earlier incidents this year that were recorded came from Balochistan.
Only two nations in the world have an endemic poliovirus, which can be fatal and induce paralysis. These are Pakistan and Afghanistan.
