Tessori stated that the Karachi traders have conferred with him over the advancement of the PIA privatisation process.
The traders in Karachi seek to acquire control of PIA for a duration of one year. The Sindh Governor stated, “They are committed to launching a new airline.”
Kamran Tessori proposed naming the new airline ‘PK,’ signifying Pakistan and Karachi, respectively.
Additionally, he endorsed the Punjab government’s prospective initiative to establish an airline called “Air Punjab.”
Governor Tessori stated that the introduction of new airlines will generate employment prospects in the nation.
Aleem Khan expresses no opposition to provinces’ attempt to acquire PIA.
His statement followed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s expression of interest in engaging in the PIA privatisation bidding.
The KP Investment Board communicated with Federal Minister for Privatisation Abdul Aleem Khan, indicating its intention to submit a proposal.
On the previous day, Nawaz Sharif, President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), stated that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recommended he acquire Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and rebrand it as ‘Air Punjab.’
Nawaz Sharif stated, “Maryam consulted me regarding the potential takeover of PIA to establish it as a new airline.”
Simultaneously, the concluding bidding phase for the PIA privatisation received a solitary bid of Rs10 billion ($36 million) for a 60% equity position in the national flag carrier.
In June, the government pre-qualified six firms; however, only the real-estate development firm Blue World City engaged in the bidding process, submitting an offer that fell below the government-mandated minimum price of Rs85 billion.
