Higher August temperatures and slightly more rainfall than usual: PMD

In its monthly climate summary for August, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported slightly above-normal rainfall and higher-than-normal temperatures nationwide on Sunday.

In August, the nation received 82.5 millimetres of rain, 1.1 percent more than usual, according to the data. At 30.44 degrees Celsius, the national average temperature was slightly higher than normal. The average temperature during the day was 36.17 degrees, while the average temperature at night was 25.06 degrees.

On August 8, the temperature in Dadu reached 45.6 degrees, making it the warmest day of the month. On August 3, Skardu experienced its coldest day, with temperatures of 17.5 degrees. On August 14, Bagrot, Gilgit-Baltistan, experienced the coldest night at 10.5 degrees, while on August 18, Gilgit experienced the warmest night at 27.5 degrees.

Sahiwal received the greatest monthly total of 750.8 millimetres and the maximum single-day rainfall of 340.5 millimetres on August 27.

The PMD stated that a strong monsoon spell was affecting Sindh and Balochistan and that monsoon currents were still entering the nation from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Because of a persisting low-pressure system, rainfall also continued in northwest Balochistan.
