IAEA and Pakistan sign the fifth country program framework.

On the sidelines of the current IAEA General Conference in Vienna on Wednesday, Pakistan and the IAEA agreed the fifth Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2026–2031.

The Framework was signed by Mr. Hua Liu, Deputy DG and Head, Department of Technical Cooperation, IAEA, on behalf of the agency, and Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, Chairman, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), on behalf of Pakistan.

National priorities where nuclear research and technology would directly promote socioeconomic development are outlined in the CPF.

It is in line with Pakistan’s development goal and international commitments, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and builds on decades of collaboration. Food and agriculture, human health and nutrition, climate change and water resource management, nuclear power, and radiation and nuclear safety are the five main sectors that are covered by the three Technical Cooperation cycles.

“The signing of this Country Programme Framework reaffirms Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology,” said Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, Chairman of PAEC, during the event. Pakistan will keep using these instruments to solve food security, enhance healthcare, fortify energy security, and protect the environment with the IAEA’s help. We are committed to making sure that everyone in society benefits from nuclear technology.
