Punjab continues to be devastated by flooding; in the most recent cases, boats transporting flood victims overturned, leaving at least three persons dead and nine missing.

Boat mishaps

Mohana Sandeela and Khan Bela saw flood victims’ boats capsize. In Mohana Sandeela, nine people are missing, 18 people were rescued, and a 4-year-old boy died. A 2-month-old infant was killed when a boat carrying 20 people crashed in Khan Bela.

Another incidence happened in Alipur tehsil, Muzaffargarh, where a boat carrying more than ten people lost its equilibrium and overturned. Thankfully, everyone was successfully evacuated and no lives were lost.

Separately, a 12-year-old child perished in the Sutlej River in Basti Kallar Wali, Bahawalnagar.

Two more dead were retrieved after a boat accident in Noorwala, Taranda Muhammad Panah, bringing the total number of fatalities to eight. Three children, four women, and a man were among the victims; one more body is still being sought.

Pirwala Jalalpur Water-enclosed: CPO Multan

The temporary embankment constructed to save Jalalpur Pirwala is always under pressure, and inhabitants are being quickly evacuated, according to CPO Multan Sadiq Ali Dogar. Ninety percent of Jalalpur tehsil’s rural areas are under water, he continued.

145 villages in Bahawalnagar are submerged.

High-level flooding at the River Sutlej’s Bhakkar Pattan point resulted in breaches close to Rajika, Bahadurka Sharqi, and Qasimka, flooding more villages. Over 120,000 acres of standing crops have been damaged, and over 145 settlements spread over 150 miles along the river belt have been severely impacted. Numerous communities are now cut off from Bahawalnagar due to the erosion of several roadways. In the flood belt, thirty-four schools are permanently shuttered. There are also reports of food, medical, and fodder shortages.

The body of Muhammad Jafar, 25, who drowned two days earlier while rescuing cattle in the village of Gardizpur near Multan, was found.
