In response to a letter from a US congressman calling for Imran’s release, 160 Pakistani parliamentarians

In response to a recent letter from 62 members of the US Congress asking President Joe Biden to pursue the release of the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), 160 members of the Pakistani Parliament wrote to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

The PTI founder’s alleged involvement in political violence and disturbances is highlighted in the letter, which also firmly opposes foreign intervention.

Citing the May 9, 2023, widespread disturbance that included attacks on Parliament, the state television headquarters, and other locations, the MPs charged the PTI founder with inciting violence and making criminal threats against state institutions. Additionally mentioned in the letter is the PTI leader’s part in using “anarchic politics” to paralyze the nation during protests in August 2014 and May 2022.
