In response to SC directives, KP eliminates quota-based employment appointments.

According to specifics, Chief Secretary KP has notified every government agency that all hiring would now be done on an open merit basis.

The Supreme Court’s judgment against quota-based nominations prompted the decision. The KP administration has also said unequivocally that appointments made without cause will be regarded as unconstitutional.

However, the ruling would not impact federal and provincial compensation packages for the benefit of civil officials and law enforcement personnel who were killed in terrorist attacks, as well as their legal heirs.

Previously, the Punjab government abolished regulation 17-A, which was a major alteration to the Punjab Civil Servants Act, 1974.

In this regard, the General Administration and Secretary of Regulation Services issued a notification.

According to the recent modification, children of Punjab government employees who have passed away would no longer be eligible for employment.

“With immediate effect, the Governor of Punjab is pleased to make the following amendment to the Punjab Civil Servants (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1974, in exercise of the powers granted under Section 23 of the Punjab Civil Servants Act, 1974 (VIII of 1974).” read the notification.

“Rule 17-A shall be omitted from the Punjab Civil Servants (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1974,” the notification stated.

In the past, when a government employee passed away, their family members were assigned to their place under Rule 17-A
