Internet service providers condemn the government’s strategy regarding the prohibition of VPNs.

In response to the government’s prohibition of unregistered VPNs, the Wireless and Internet Service Providers Association has expressed apprehensions, advocating for an equitable and balanced regulatory framework.

The group emphasised the significance of VPNs for safeguarding privacy, facilitating secure communication, and enhancing online accessibility.

It cautioned that arbitrary limitations might adversely affect IT exports, financial transactions, and research activities, potentially jeopardising critical areas of the economy and inhibiting digital advancement.

The group advocated for the proper utilisation of VPNs in accordance with national legislation to avert abuse, stressing that any policy must not impede the actions of compliant users. It emphasised the significance of cultivating an environment that promotes digital freedom, knowledge exchange, and commerce.

The association implored the government to develop rules that protect national security while fostering the advancement of Pakistan’s digital economy.
