Investigators said that Chinese people were the target of a deadly vehicle bomb near Karachi airport.
At least three persons were killed and ten more were injured in a devastating suicide bombing that happened late on Sunday in Karachi, the port city of Pakistan, targeting a vehicle carrying Chinese nationals.
The suicide bomber was waiting for the Chinese convoy to approach near Jinnah airport, according to the preliminary investigation, before carrying out the attack.
Investigators said that “the terrorist hit the foreign nationals’ car with the explosive-laden vehicle, causing massive destruction and damage to several nearby cars.”
Rescue personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the explosion and were able to securely remove one of the foreigners’ cars.
In order to support the inquiry, authorities are currently attempting to get the engine chassis number and the car’s number plate.
The damaged vehicles’ details are currently being gathered by investigators.
Standing outside the airport was the massive explosion that could be heard for miles. The authorities guaranteed the safety of all airport infrastructure and said it had no impact on flight operations.
Two Chinese citizens were confirmed dead and one injured in a statement released by the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad, which also denounced the “terrorist attack.”
Following the incident, the embassy shared its sympathies with the families of the victims and announced that it is working with Pakistani authorities.
The attack was sharply denounced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who also instructed security services to apprehend those involved.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry condemned the act in a different statement, calling it an attack on Pakistan’s “enduring friendship” with China as well as on the country itself.
