Journalists are assured of support for the PECA bill by Fazlur Rehman.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the JUI-F, promised reporters Monday that he would fully back the contentious PECA Bill issue.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman spoke with reporters at the Parliament House’s parliamentary reporters’ office, highlighting the close relationship between journalism and politics. He expressed that the two spheres have always been intertwined.
Reaffirming his commitment regarding the PECA Bill issue, Maulana Fazlur Rehman acknowledged the importance of maintaining mutual respect and understanding between parliamentarians and journalists.
He pointed out that laws are crafted with specific contextual circumstances in mind, but over time, their relevance may diminish, especially referencing the situation during the 26th Amendment.
He restated his position about the PECA bill, highlighting the importance of including journalists in the decision-making process and taking their recommendations into consideration. He pointed out that before acting, the President ought to have consulted media outlets and journalists.
The JUI-F leader added that he had asked the president to meet with media and to refrain from signing the measure. He further mentioned that President Asif Ali Zardari had promised to have more talks with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
