Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan takes oath as SC judge
In a ceremony conducted in the ceremonial hall of the Supreme Court, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan was sworn in by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa.
Senior attorneys, the attorney general of Pakistan, and Supreme Court justices were present at the oath-taking event. The Pakistani Judicial Commission approved Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan’s promotion from top justice of the BHC to the Supreme Court.
It is important to remember that Justice Naeem Akhtar was the Balochistan High Court’s (BHC) Chief Justice.
Ghulam Sarwar Khan Afghan, better known as Afghan Agha Jan, was a well-known Persian and Urdu scholar. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan is the grandson of Mr. Moin Akhtar Afghan, a retired government employee.
On May 12, 2001, he was admitted as an advocate of the Pakistani Supreme Court. He spent twenty-one years practicing law before Pakistan’s Subordinate Courts, High Court, Federal Shariat Court, and Honorable Supreme Court. Numerous criminal, civil, and constitutional cases he handled have been published in legal journals. Additionally, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan belonged to the Baluchistan Bar Council.
The Honorable firm Judge of the High Court of Balochistan designated Justice Naeem as the official liquidator in Civil Petition No.01/98 for the winding up of the firm “M/S Pakistan Chromite Limited” in accordance with the Companies Ordinance, 1984.
He was a member of the Pakistan Steel Mills Limited, Baluchistan, and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited panel of lawyers. He represented these two groups in various judicial proceedings. The legal courts designated him as an arbitrator in a number of instances. He was also a member of the National Bank of Pakistan panel.
On May 12, 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Additional Judge in the High Court of Balochistan. On May 11, 2012, he was named a judge of the Balochistani High Court.
Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan took oath as Chief Justice of the High Court of Balochistan on August 9, 2021.
