K-Electric extends the deadline for paying electricity bills.

The electricity company said today that the due date for K-Electric bills in July and August has been extended by 10 days, following the same practice as other distribution firms in Pakistan.

The KE has stated that customers who are qualified and have paid their bills with a late payment surcharge (LPS) will receive a credit in their next bill.

PM Shehbaz gave the instructions following allegations that all power distribution companies, including K-Electric, were exploiting consumers by imposing excessive charges in addition to burdensome electricity bills.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) announced on Wednesday that an enquiry report has revealed the involvement of all distribution providers, including K-Electric, in overbilling.

The agency announced that a group of its officials conducted a thorough investigation into reports of excessive billing from April to June 2024.

The Ministry of Energy (power division) issued a supplementary statement stating that the prime minister has instructed a 10-day extension for the deadline to pay electricity bills. The 10-day extension for bill payment will apply to bills for the months of July and August.

The power division stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued these orders considering the challenges faced by consumers. The direction has been communicated to all power companies.
