Karachi’s monsoon will last until September 30: Met Office

KARACHI: According to the Met Office on Saturday, Karachi and the surrounding area will continue to experience monsoon weather through September 30.

The monsoon season, which brings rain to the area, typically lasts from the end of June to September 15; however, in recent years, it has extended till the end of September.

Since the next monsoon season is predicted to arrive in five days, the city will continue to experience hot and muggy weather for the next several days.

The weather forecast states that “the sea breeze has returned as southwestern winds blow in the city with a speed of 15 kilometers per hour.”

Given that the present humidity level in Karachi is 85%, the maximum temperature is predicted to surge to 34 Celsius.

According to the Met Office, the extra water vapor in the atmosphere could cause clouds to form. “Due to local development, Karachi is expected to experience light or drizzled rainfall.”

The next monsoon spell could bring rainfall within next five days.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) earlier said that the rain-bearing system that had brought heavy rains in the region, causing flooding in Malir and Lyari rain rivers and their tributaries in catchment area in Kirthar mountain range, had shifted away from Karachi, ruling out the likelihood of more showers.

After leaving Karachi, the low over the North Arabian Sea moved westward.
