According to sources, the KP government has excused itself from providing security because the staff will be on duty for the by-elections on April 28.
In addition, the anti-polio campaign in 26 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will now begin on May 6.
Previously, National Institute of Health (NIH) authorities said that the polio virus has been discovered in the sewers of Pakistan’s largest cities.

According to a technical assessment of polio-positive sewerage samples published by the NIH, the virus of the devastating disease was detected in nine sewerage samples from five cities in Pakistan, including Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Chaman, and Mastung.
The samples were collected between February 21 and 27, and they tested positive for wild poliovirus.
According to sources citing the NIH research, the polio virus was discovered in the sewerage of Karachi South and Korangi.
The virus was found in the sewers of Peshawar’s Shaheen Muslim Town in Peshawar, and in Sir Pul, Taosabad in Quetta.
It is worth noting that Pakistan has reported two cases of polio in 2024 so far.
The first polio case of 2024 was reported in Dera Bugti, where a two-and-a-half-year-old child was diagnosed with the poliovirus, while the second was recorded in Chaman’s Mir Ali Zai neighbourhood, where a four-year-old boy was confirmed with the disease.
