Maryam Nawaz proposes that Huawei establish production and assembly facilities in Punjab.

During her trip to China, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a collaboration with Huawei Technologies to establish Lahore as Pakistan’s first contemporary smart city.

The project aims to improve infrastructure and urban living by utilizing state-of-the-art digital technology.

Maryam Nawaz received a warm reception at Huawei’s headquarters in Shanghai’s Longgang District, where she invited the company to invest more in Pakistan, especially Punjab.

She promised complete assistance for the creation of assembly and manufacturing facilities in the province and suggested opening a Huawei office at Nawaz Sharif IT City.

The CM also offered Huawei the opportunity to establish retail offices and after-sales service centers across Punjab.

Emphasis on AI University and Digital Transformation
CM Maryam Nawaz met with Huawei’s President of Government Affairs, Wang Chengdong, to discuss plans to transform Lahore into a digital metropolis. E-commerce, ecosystem production, and the digitization of the health and education sectors were among the main areas of emphasis. In addition to seeking assistance in capacity building and IT research at Nawaz Sharif IT City, the chief minister underlined the importance of incorporating Huawei’s experience into Punjab’s first artificial intelligence university.

The discussions also included Huawei’s role in familiarizing Punjab’s youth with modern digital technologies and supporting ecosystem development in the province. Notably, the first Safe City project in Lahore was established with Huawei’s collaboration, highlighting the company’s longstanding contributions to Punjab.

The Dedication of Huawei to Punjab
Wang Chengdong gave a thorough update on Huawei’s current initiatives in Pakistan, especially in Punjab, and indicated a strong desire to further the collaboration. He described how Huawei’s telecommunications, electronics, and digitalization capabilities complement Punjab’s goal of creating a “Digital Punjab.”

CM Maryam Nawaz saw Huawei’s various departments and manufacturing facilities as the visit came to an end. She restated the province’s resolve to use Huawei’s experience to improve technology and promote economic growth via digital innovation.

This landmark collaboration is poised to revolutionize urban living standards in Lahore, setting a benchmark for smart city development in Pakistan.
