Michael Vaughan draws attention to India’s unfair advantage in in the T20 World Cup.
Remarkable commentator on world cricket, Vaughan discussed Afghanistan’s cramped timetable for their semi-final match against South Africa and emphasized that India and England ought to have played in the opening semi-final.
“It’s so unfair on others that the entire event is geared towards India, but this [Afghanistan vs. South Africa] semifinal should have been the Guyana one,” he post on X.
Afghanistan’s victory in St. Vincent on Monday night has qualified them for the World Cup semifinals. “There was a complete lack of respect for the players, I fear. There was a 4-hour delay in the flight to Trinidad on Tuesday, which left no time for practice or acclimatization to a new location,” Vaughan said.
Following this, Michael Vaughan charged that India was unfairly given an advantage during the 2024 T20 World Cup.
In addition, he said, “This [South Africa vs. Afghanistan] semifinal should have been in Guyana, but the entire thing is so unfair to other countries because it’s focused all on India.”
Earlier, Afghanistan’s head coach Jonathan Trott voiced his displeasure with his team’s demanding schedule, saying they had less time than their opponents to be ready.
It isn’t ideal to play the first semi-final after the final group game because you would have to travel and wouldn’t truly have a day off. We still won, nevertheless, for that reason.
It’s not a legitimate justification because we were aware of the schedule. You have to battle and play against the odds in tournament settings; you cannot have everything your way. It is something I am really pleased of that we have occasionally done.
