OpenAI unveils the text-to-video model Sora for ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers.
On Monday, OpenAI announced the release of their artificial intelligence model that generates video from text for ChatGPT Plus and Pro customers, thereby broadening its engagement with multimodal AI technologies.
The Microsoft-supported company, which initiated a generative AI frenzy with the introduction of its ChatGPT chatbot in November 2022, seeks to compete with analogous text-to-video tools from Meta and Alphabet’s Google, as well as Stability AI’s Stable Video Diffusion.
The AI model, designated Sora, was initially unveiled in February; however, its accessibility was restricted to safety testers during its research preview phase. ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers can now access Sora Turbo at no extra charge.
The company announced in a blog post, “We are developing customized pricing for various user categories, which we intend to launch early next year.”
Users can make films with a maximum quality of 1080p, a duration of up to 20 seconds, and in widescreen, vertical, or square aspect ratios.
OpenAI announced that Sora will not be available in EU countries, Switzerland, and the UK; nevertheless, the AI model will be accessible in other places where ChatGPT is available.
The firm announced it will prohibit the development and posting of harmful kinds of abuse, including child sexual abuse materials and sexual deepfakes, on Sora to avert exploitation.
“At launch, uploads by individuals will be restricted; however, we plan to expand this feature to additional users as we enhance our deepfake countermeasures,” it stated.
