Operation Azm-e-Istehkam receives approval from the federal cabinet for R20 billion.
Operation Azm-e-Istehkam is a comprehensive counter-insurgency initiative initiated by Pakistan in June 2024. Its primary objective is to destroy extremism and terrorism through the use of military action and socio-economic development, with a particular emphasis on regional collaboration and stability.
It was necessary for the government to allot the monies in order to carry out the Azm-e-Istehkam operation. Numerous individuals from a variety of backgrounds in Pakistan have expressed their displeasure with the operation.
The cabinet also approved a total of 1.951 billion Pakistani rupees to be allocated for the protection of the Reko Diq project.
It was during the meeting that the cabinet voiced its concern over the recent increase in terrorist acts, praised the efforts of the security forces, and denounced the terrorist attacks that occurred in Balochistan. Within a short amount of time, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of locating and taking action against the terrorists.
The decisions that were made by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) during their meeting on August 22 were also confirmed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. One of these choices was the conditional export of 100,000 metric tons of sugar. The consistent supply of urea fertilizer for the Rabi crop was another thing that he highlighted, and he praised the appropriate ministers for their efforts.
Additionally, the cabinet gave its approval to the dissolution of the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD), which will result in the ministry’s staff and projects being moved to other divisions. The Prime Minister emphasised the significance of giving constitutional reforms and institutional enhancements a higher priority, which includes the implementation of digitalization and intelligent management practises.
In addition to receiving an update on the current austerity measures, the cabinet also gave its approval to the continuation of the projects that were initiated by the previous administration. The Prime Minister emphasized the need of safeguarding public monies and making certain that the members of the bureaucracy and the elite do not receive any luxuries at the expense of the ordinary people.
