Pakistan advocates for the enforcement of the rule of law to terminate the occupation of Palestine and Kashmir.

As the rule of law becomes increasingly pertinent among the world’s complicated difficulties, Pakistan has advocated for its application in the contexts of Palestine and Kashmir to terminate the prolonged occupation of these regions.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN, expressed sadness at blatant transgressions of international law and established standards by certain nations.
“Peace and security are jeopardized by military provocations, aggressive intentions, and unlawful actions, including the suspension of previously revered international treaties,” he stated before the UN General Assembly’s Legal Committee on Friday.
The Pakistani envoy remarked, “We are witnessing a troubling increase in territorial expansion and unilateral actions,” during a discussion on ‘The Rule of Law at the National and International Level’.
Emphasizing the repressive occupations of Palestine and Kashmir, he asserted that the cessation of impunity and prolonged occupations must commence with genuine compliance with international law, cautioning that without accountability, peace remains unattainable.
In May of this year, Ambassador Asim Ahmad highlighted India’s hostility towards Pakistan, characterizing the unprovoked assault as “a serious violation of international law” that infringed upon its sovereignty.
“Pakistan’s resolute yet measured and appropriate response constituted the exercise of the right to self-defense, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter,” leading to the downing of multiple Indian aircraft and inflicting damage on Indian military bases and targets involved in hostile actions.
“India sought to create a ‘new normal’; however, Pakistan’s reaction reaffirmed that the sole norm is adherence to international law and the sovereignty of states, consistent with the UN Charter.”
Ambassador Asim Ahmad stated that Palestine has suffered extensively due to the inhumane, indiscriminate, and unlawful application of force by Israel against the civilian populace of Gaza and beyond.
He emphasized that peace and development are fundamentally connected to the rule of law, reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to the peaceful resolution of disputes, a notion promoted by Security Council Resolution 2788, which was unanimously adopted under Pakistan’s presidency earlier this year.
He stated, “Security Council resolutions constitute a component of international law and impose obligatory commitments on member states,” emphasizing the necessity of ensuring their integrity through continuous execution in all instances.
On the occasion of the UN’s 80th anniversary, the Pakistani representative advocated for the democratization of international law to guarantee that emerging standards are inclusive and equitable, rather than “exclusive, restrictive, or discriminatory.”
In closing, Ambassador Asim Ahmad stated, “Our dedication to fortifying and promoting the international rule of law will serve as a lasting legacy for future generations.” It would assist in alleviating anarchy, struggle, and conflict, steering us towards collaboration to enhance global peace, development, and stability.
