Pakistan “approves” a rise in the cost of power.
In specifics, the federal cabinet decided to raise the cost of power for large, commercial and agricultural users while keeping the industrial users’ basic rate the same.
For business customers, the baseline price of energy has been permitted to increase by Rs8.04 by the cabinet. Commercial customers would pay Rs77.15 per unit starting in July, according to the sources.
The base tariff has gone up by Rs6.62 per unit for agricultural customers. Agricultural users would pay Rs46.83 per unit starting in July. Nepra has been informed by the Power Division of the federal cabinet’s decision, and the basic tariff for industrial consumers remains unaltered.
They also state that the government has approved raising the general services electricity cost by Rs6.98 per unit. Consequently, general services would have a per unit rate of Rs61.03 starting in July.
The government has also authorised an increase in the power cost for non-protected consumers of Rs5.51 per unit. They would therefore start charging Rs59.96 per unit in July.
PM declares a 50 billion rupee relief.
For household energy users utilising up to 200 units per month, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif announced a Rs. 50 billion relief package.
In his speech at an event in Islamabad pertaining to the reforms being implemented in the energy sector, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that the government will not be raising the electricity bills for protected consumers who use up to 200 units of power monthly.
Premier Shehbaz Sharif declared, “The domestic consumers who consume up to 200 units of electricity will get a subsidy for three months — July, August, September.”
The package will help 25 million domestic consumers over the three months of July, August, and September, or 94% of all domestic consumers, he said.
Per the prime minister, power will cost between 4 and 7 rupees per unit under the programme. According to him, this subsidy will also apply to K-Electric customers.
