Pakistan has documented its 50th polio case of 2024.
The National Reference Lab has recently verified a case involving a 20-month-old girl from the Tank district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to NEOC sources.
Laboratory testing established the existence of WPV1. Tank has now had two cases of polio this year; a genetic link was found between this and another case that occurred in the same district in July.
According to the provinces, 24 polio cases were recorded in Balochistan this year, 13 in Sindh, 11 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 1 in Punjab and Islamabad.
Officials in charge of polio prevention efforts have repeatedly stressed the need for vaccination drives, especially in regions where the disease is most prevalent.
Several sources have stated that foreign organisations are worried about the recent surge in polio cases in Pakistan.
Reports indicate that the global body has demanded immediate action from Pakistan.
Reliable sources have informed us that Pakistan has promised to respond quickly in order to get the polio epidemic under control. Organisations fighting the virus will also be visiting Pakistan later this month.
