Pakistan has witnessed a substantial increase in the number of reported incidents of dog bites.
According to authorities at the National Institute of Health (NIH), there were a total of 7,815 documented incidents of dog bites across the country last week.
The preponderance of these occurrences were reported in Punjab, with 5,158 cases. A total of 1,975 individuals in Sindh sustained injuries caused by stray canines. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had a total of 475 incidences, and Balochistan witnessed 91 incidents.
A total of 112 incidents of canine attacks were reported in Azad Kashmir, while Gilgit-Baltistan documented 4 incidences.
The escalating prevalence of dog bite incidents underscores the pressing necessity for implementing efficacious strategies to manage the stray dog population and guarantee the security of the populace. Public health authorities are advised to promptly take measures to tackle this escalating issue and establish plans for immunisation and control of stray animals.
On July 19th, an infant aged seven months perished as a result of being viciously attacked by a stray canine in Pakpattan.
Based on the information provided, the stray dog entered the house and assaulted the infant, who unfortunately died as a result of their injuries while receiving medical care at the hospital.
According to the rescue sources, the dog attacked the infant within his residence in Kamiriyan village, located in Pakpattan.
The infant was being sent urgently to the hospital in a state of injury, but unfortunately passed away during transit. The dog was subsequently apprehended and subjected to fatal physical abuse by the local residents.
