Pakistan obtained Rs 75.166 billion via the theft of electricity.
The nationwide campaign to combat power thieves is having an impact on reducing the sector’s losses.
As to the information released by the electricity division, since September 1st, Pakistan has collected Rs75.166 billion from power thieves.
In addition, 44730 power pilfers have been apprehended.
The electricity division apprehended 106 individuals and collected Rs2.096 billion from the power pilfers between February 11 and February 18. The breakdown shows that Rs1.211 billion was taken back from Multan, Islamabad, Lahore, and Faisalabad. During that time, 57 power thieves were also taken into custody.
From Peshawar electricity pilfers, Rs0.301 billion was recovered; 26 individuals were also detained.
The sums recovered from Quetta were Rs0.077, Rs0.485 billion from Hyderabad and Sukkur, and Rs0.022 billion from tribal regions that were amalgamated with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It should be mentioned that Pakistan’s caretaker government has begun a nationwide campaign against power thieves in an effort to reduce losses in the energy industry and reduce circular debt.
Pakistan has been “asked” by the International Monetary Fund to reduce its circular debt in the electricity industry.
