Pakistan resolves nationwide passport backlog

ISLAMABAD: Mustafa Jamal Qazi, the Director General of Immigration and Passports, has declared a significant advancement in Pakistan’s passport issuance system, stating that the passport backlog has been entirely eliminated nationwide.

The milestone was declared during the visit of Bangladesh High Commissioner Iqbal Hussain to the Passport Headquarters in Islamabad.

During the visit, the High Commissioner saw various sections of the plant and observed the passport manufacture process.

DG Passports elaborated on recent technology improvements, encompassing new laminating techniques, improved security features, optimized online services for abroad Pakistanis, and the passport issuance procedure.

Mustafa Qazi emphasized that the department has effectively achieved comprehensive cleanliness both domestically in Pakistan and internationally, marking a significant milestone for the Directorate.

The Passport office has issued more than 3.3 million passports, according to the reports. Since July 1, more than 3.3 million passports have been issued, encompassing urgent and expedited categories.

Citizens may now collect their passports straight from regional offices without awaiting notifications.

The High Commissioner praised the changes of the passport department and expressed interest in integrating artificial intelligence into the passport issue system and production process.

He characterized the rapid elimination of the backlog as an exceptional achievement that demonstrates Pakistan’s dedication to standardizing its public service infrastructure.

DG Passport reorganizes Punjab zones to enhance services.

Recently, Director General of Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi proposed a new administrative framework for passport services throughout Punjab to enhance public convenience.

The DG has announced the reorganization of all zones in Punjab, resulting in the establishment of four new sub-zones inside the Central and Southern Punjab regions.

In Central Punjab, the Lahore and Gujranwala Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) will now operate as new sub-zones.
