Parts of the country are covered in fog, forcing the closure of motorways.

On the nights of Wednesday and Thursday, dense fog once more engulfed a number of Punjab and Sindh cities, impeding daily activities and causing traffic jams.

Road traffic flow has been severely impacted in a number of cities by the dense fog.

Motorway M11 from Lahore to Sialkot and Motorway M5 from Rahim Yar Khan to Rohri have been closed to all traffic, a spokeswoman for the Motorway Police said.

Drivers are encouraged to travel on Grand Trunk (GT) Road by the motorway police. Drivers have also been advised to turn on their foglights and travel more slowly.

People have also been warned by the highway police to stay at home and refrain from needless travel.

Traffic has also been hampered by dense fog in a number of locations across the nation on national routes because of poor visibility.

PERSISTENTS FOR COLD WEATHER

In the meantime, the nation has been gripped by extreme cold for the past 24 hours, with snowfall in Balochistan and the northern regions.

Rain and snow continued to fall intermittently in several Balochistani districts, making it colder. Quetta, Chaman, Ziarat, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, and the adjacent areas saw rain, while Toba Achakzai continued to see snowfall.

In the meantime, temperatures in the country’s north continued to be below freezing. Both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan continued to experience extreme cold.

The recorded temperatures were -12°C in Leh, -10°C in Skardu, -9°C in Gupis, and -7°C in Astore. In contrast, the temperatures in Kalam, Hunza, Gilgit, and Bagroot were -5°C. It was found to be -4°C in Parachinar, Ziarat, and Kalat.

SUMMARY FOR TODAY

The Met Office forecast mainly cold and dry weather in most parts of the country on Thursday (today), while very cold in hilly areas. Moderate to dense fog (in patches) is likely in most districts of Punjab, upper Sindh, and plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during morning/night hours. Isolated locations in Kashmir and the nearby high regions may see light rain or snowfall.
