PHC instructs ECP to convene a meeting for the KP Senate election.
The case was heard by a bench consisting of Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Waqar Ahmed.
Judge Ishtiaq Ibrahim ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to call a meeting and report back to the court.
In his petition, Azam Swati of the PTI argued that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has not held Senate elections because the voting was conducted in other provinces.
The petitioner’s attorney begged, “We have petitioned to hold a Senate election in the province.”
“When the commission convenes and determines the time for conducting elections,” the chief justice stated.
The election commission is convening to discuss the subject and is requesting time from the court. According to Special Secretary to the ECP Muhammad Arshad, “We will submit our reply in the court.”
According to the petitioner’s attorney, KP has not been represented in the 11 Senate seats that the province has been using.
Chief Justice Ibrahim inquired, “Our province is not represented in the Senate.” “Half seats are vacant, and there is half representation,” an ECP representative stated.
“We are giving the election commission one last chance to meet and report back to the court on their decision at the next hearing,” the court stated.
“If you do not respond by December 24th, we will not postpone the matter any further,” Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim stated.
The case’s additional hearing was postponed by the bench until December 24.
