Pillion riding is prohibited in Rawalpindi and Section 144 is enforced as the TLP announces the Aqsa March towards the US Embassy.

Following the announcement of the “Aqsa March” against the US Embassy in Islamabad by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in protest of US support for Israeli actions in Gaza, the Rawalpindi government has enforced Section 144 for four days, prohibiting public gatherings, protests, and pillion riding.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema issued the directive on Thursday, citing intelligence information and security concerns that suggested a threat to public order.

The District Intelligence Committee (DIC), which cautioned of a “serious risk” to human life, public property, and infrastructure within Rawalpindi, particularly near sensitive places and notable roadways, recommended the decision, according to the official announcement.

According to the notification, “intelligence reports indicate that certain groups are actively mobilising with intentions to disrupt law and order through disruptive assemblies, protests, and large gatherings.”

From October 8 to October 11, 2025, the Deputy Commissioner forbade the use of loudspeakers in any kind of public gathering, rally, processions, protest, or rally in the Rawalpindi area.

Increased Security in Islamabad and Rawalpindi

Container barricades have been erected on important access and exit points, such as Faizabad Interchange, Murree Road, and other roads that lead into Islamabad, in advance of the TLP’s march.

A backup plan has been established to block important routes if needed, and security personnel, such as police and Rangers, have been stationed at strategic locations. Additionally, hotels close to Faizabad have been ordered to depart.

Reports of clashes in Lahore

Tensions increased in Lahore, where altercations between police and members of a religious group occurred close to Yateem Khana Chowk. Dozens of partygoers were arrested, and several were hurt.

According to reports, TLP demonstrators destroyed multiple police cell phones and threw stones at officers. Major intersections, such as the roadways from Scheme Mor to Yateem Khana Chowk, were blocked off by authorities, who erected barriers and containers.
