‘Political activities, abuse of power’ is the charge against former spymaster Faiz Hameed, according to ISPR
The court martial procedures against retired Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, the former director general of ISI, began on Tuesday under the Pakistan Army Act, which is a significant move.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations, retired Lt Gen Faiz Hameed was the target of a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) on August 12, 2024, in accordance with the Pakistan Army Act.
Initially, the ISPR stated that Faiz Hameed had been formally charged with political activity, Official Secrets Act offenses that were harmful to the state’s safety and interests, abuse of power and government assets, and inflicting unlawful loss to a person or people.
“During the process, involvement of Faiz Hameed in events related to creating agitation and unrest leading to multiple incidents, including but not limited to the 9th May 2023 incident for fomenting instability at the behest of and in collusion with vested political interests, is also being separately investigated.”
“A thorough court of inquiry was undertaken by the Pakistan Army to ascertain the correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) in accordance with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan,” the ISPR stated in a statement in August 2024.
It further stated that suitable disciplinary action had been taken against him in accordance with the Pakistan Army Act’s requirements.
