PPP warns the government over “unmet promises.”
Members of the government committee, including deputy prime minister Ishaq Dar, took note of the PPP’s concerns when they were brought up in a recent meeting.
The PPP group, which included Raja Pervez Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, and Sherry Rehman, among others, reportedly brought up concerns about the federal mega-projects’ disdain for Sindh and Balochistan as well as the provinces’ administrative affairs in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to insiders, the government committee gave PPP assurances that their issues would be resolved.
The Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), Shehbaz Sharif’s main supporter, made “all demands” of the government earlier this year in order to win the party’s support for passing Budget 2024–2025.
Sources claim that the PML-N acceded to the PPP’s demands around representation on a number of boards and authorities, control over district administration, the appointment of law enforcement officials, early local body elections, and the fair allocation of development funds to both party lawmakers.
The administration acknowledged any anti-PPI reprisals in Punjab during the talks, but it said it could not take political retaliation against a coalition party.
