Protests persist at six sites in Karachi.
According to information, two religious parties are currently holding rallies at six different locations in Karachi, which is inconveniencing commuters and causing traffic disruptions.
Karachi traffic police report that protests are taking place near Water Pump, Abu al-Hasan Isfahani Road, Kamran Chowrangi, and Numaish Chowrangi.
In addition to the two roads that go to Abu al-Hasan Isfahani Road and Abbas Town, Numaish Chowrangi is totally blocked off to traffic.
Additionally, traffic is not allowed on Kamran Chowrangi to Mosmiyat Road.
The demonstrators have also blocked the Water Pump to Incholi Road, which has an impact on traffic movement.
The road from Sohrab Goth to Water Pump is still open, though, as is the Banaras to Orangi Town route.
In order to prevent delays, authorities are advising commuters to exercise patience and choose alternate routes.
Violence broke out in Numaish Chowrangi on Tuesday as demonstrators from the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) were dispersed by police using artillery.
The demonstrators reacted violently to the police’s use of shelling by hurling stones at the policemen. Several motorcycles were burned in the confusion.
Members of the Special Security Unit (SSU) Commandos and SSP Keamari Faizan Ali were among the several police personnel hurt.
An SSU commando was among the injured police officers who were taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment, according to rescue sources.
Several participants in the hours-long protest were also taken into custody by authorities.
