PTA steps up efforts to combat unlicensed mobile boosters
According to a news release from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), “a retailer engaged in the sale of illegal mobile boosters and amplifiers was successfully raided by the PTA Zonal Office Karachi in cooperation with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle Karachi.”
The statement further stated that one laptop and twenty-five mobile booster sets were immediately seized during the raid.
The Financial Industry Authority (FIA) has launched an investigation.
“Illegal amplifiers impact the quality of service (QoS) offered by cellular mobile operators (CMOs) by interfering with the licensed spectrum of PTA’s licensees,” the authority stated.
“It is recommended that consumers utilise only equipment that has been approved by the PTA Type,” the statement continued.
Separately, the PTA announced that Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2024 would take place from December 9 to December 15.
Increasing consumer and individual awareness of internet safety is the goal of this week-long campaign.
The campaign’s main objectives are data privacy, internet security, and the legal ramifications of cybercrimes in light of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.
In order to improve Pakistan’s cybersecurity environment, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority urged individuals, organisations, and academic institutions to follow our social media accounts and share and repost our material.
To give people and organisations the knowledge they need to defend themselves against new cyberthreats, the PTA is holding expert discussions.
