PTI founder Shah Mahmood’s appeals in the cipher case will be heard by IHC

Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the former foreign minister and founder of the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is scheduled to present his arguments against indictment in the cipher case today (Monday) before the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The appeals against indictment in the cipher case will be heard by justices Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Chief Justice Amer Farooq of the IHC.

The PTI founder’s attorney, Barrister Salman Safdar, made arguments during the previous session. He is anticipated to provide further information during today’s hearing.

Notably, in the Toshakhana case, Chief Justice Amer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will also hear arguments against the indictment.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad Sessions Court is hearing arguments in the “Nikkah during iddat” case.

Based on the home secretary’s accusation, a formal complaint was filed accusing the PTI founder and other leaders, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Azam Khan, and Asad Umar, of disclosing state secrets in public.

On November 21, 2023, a division bench of the IHC, consisting of Justices Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Saman Rafat Imtiaz, rendered a ruling overturning the outcome of the PTI founder’s prison trial in the cipher case.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi and the founder of the PTI have filed appeals contesting their indictment in the cipher case. In relation to the cipher case, both received sentences of ten years of hard jail.
