PTI members leave Senate standing committees following NA

The flood of resignations from National Assembly standing committees has now spread to the Senate, where party senators have also started to leave their committees, under directives from PTI founder chairman Imran Khan.

The Senate standing committees of Senators Ali Zafar, Azam Swati, Dost Muhammad, Zeeshan Khanzada, Mirza Afridi, and Mohsin Aziz have all announced their resignations.

Parliamentary Leader Ali Zafar received the resignations from five committees from Senator Azam Swati, and he will convey them to the Senate Chairman. The party leader ordered the resignations, he said, adding that standing committees are no longer able to enforce the constitution and the rule of law and that the current parliamentary system has lost its legitimacy.

Senate Foreign Affairs, Finance and Revenue, Commerce, and Privatisation Committees, as well as the Overseas Pakistanis Committee, were among the five committees that Senator Zeeshan Khanzada resigned from in protest, according to his letter of resignation to the Senate Chairman.

Additionally, PTI Senator Dost Muhammad tendered resignations from the Committees on Railways, Food Security, Human Rights, Government Assurances, and Poverty Alleviation.

PTI-supported Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi also resigned, alleging orders from Imran Khan, from the Committees on Commerce, Industries and Production, Education, Energy, and Inter-Provincial Coordination.

Senator Mohsin Aziz had previously resigned from every committee.

Notably, 51 PTI members of the National Assembly and Public Accounts Committee Chairman Junaid Akbar have already submitted their resignations to the NA Speaker in response to Imran Khan’s orders.

According to sources, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the speaker of the National Assembly, has not yet responded to these resignations, and the administration has asked the Speaker to reject the resignations of Sunni Ittehad Council members.
