PTI’s arguments in the intra-party election dispute are rejected by the ECP.
The Election Commission of Pakistan published a 10-page ruling, written by Nisar Durrani, who is a member from Sindh.
The argument raised by PTI about the jurisdiction of the Election Commission of Pakistan in the intra-party elections was dismissed in the ruling. Furthermore, the court rejected PTI’s request to postpone the proceedings in the case.
The request to delay the implementation of intra-party elections until a resolution is made about reserved seats was also rejected. The ECP’s ruling suggests that PTI should seek legal recourse to retrieve the papers confiscated from its party office.
The ruling highlighted that according to Section 208 of the Election Act 2017, the Commission is obligated to examine legal obligations.
The Election Commission of Pakistan emphasised its responsibility to scrutinise the facts before to issuing certifications in accordance with Section 209(3).
On April 8, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) formally requested the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to issue the certificate confirming the results of its internal party election.
