Residential areas in Islamabad are being illegally commercialized, which is against CDA Ordinance 1960.
In the federal capital, citizens and civic organizers are speaking out against the unlawful commercialization of residential neighborhoods. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is facing criticism for neglecting to address infractions of the Islamabad Residential Sectors Zoning Regulations and the CDA Ordinance 1960.
According to reports, residential areas that were formerly meant for families and quiet life are now being transformed into centers for illicit business activity. These include the functioning of clinics, hostels, and even foreign media outlets, all of which detractors say degrade the standard of living for locals. Frustrations have been made worse by worries about growing traffic congestion, parking difficulties, and environmental stress.
“Residential areas are for living, not business profiteering,” a worried advocacy group said, drawing attention to the increasing disdain for zoning regulations. The campaigners demanded that Islamabad emulate cities such as Dubai and London, which uphold stringent zoning laws to protect the integrity of residential areas.
The group listed a number of urgent steps the CDA should take, such as:
conducting in-depth studies in every industry.
destroying illicit businesses, regardless of their strength or influence.
maintaining the safety and livability of residential areas by upholding current laws.
In order to safeguard their communities, civic organizations are advising locals to hold the CDA accountable. “We will not remain silent!” declared one activist, highlighting the urgency of taking immediate action to maintain Islamabad’s residential character and restore its integrity.
