Sania Nishtar of the PTI resigned from her Senate position

Sania Nishtar, a former special assistant to the prime minister in the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) administration, resigned from her position in the Senate Secretariat, according to reports.

Nishtar reportedly resigned after joining an international organization with headquarters in Geneva, according to sources.

In 2021, Sania Nishtar was elected to the Senate from a seat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A doctor by trade, Sania Nishtar was named CEO of the Vaccine Alliance, or Gavi, in 2024. She was the chairman of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and the Ehsaas Program, and she previously held the position of Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, with the rank of federal minister.

She also had experience managing science, education, and public health in the 2013 interim federal government.
