Seats reserved by SIC will be heard by the SC on June 24.

The rulings of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) reserved seats were suspended on May 6 by the Supreme Court.

The ruling concerning the distribution of reserved seats to political parties has been stayed by the three-judge panel led by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and consisting of Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Athar Minallah.

The matter has been scheduled for hearing, and according to Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, “we are suspending the ECP and PHC verdicts.”

The plea will be heard by a full court presided over by CJP Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

Reserved seats: The election commission assigned other political parties the reserved seats for women and minorities.

According to a notification, the ECP gave Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Pakistan, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) one reserved seat apiece in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

A reserved seat for women in the Sindh Assembly was given to the PPP and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P). Samita Afzal of the PPP and Fouzia Hameed of the MQM-P were elected to reserved seats.

Additionally, Sadhu Mal, also known as Surinder Valasai, of the PPP won a minority member in the Sindh Assembly.

The Sunni Ittehad Council sought three reserved seats for minorities, which the ECP gave to the PML-N, PPP, and JUI-F. Neelam Meghwar of the PML-N, Ramesh Kumar of the PPP, and James Iqbal of the JUI-F were elected to the minority seats.
