Sharks cannot harm submarine cables, according to the PTA chief.

He was answering questions from the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, which was presided over by Senator Palwasha Khan, regarding internet disruption in Pakistan.

Members of the committee had concerns throughout the discussion regarding application functionality and internet speed. While the download speed was acceptable, one participant reported that voice notes were not being sent and that applications were not operating correctly.

The PTA chairman responded by reassuring everyone that Pakistan presently has seven underwater cables and that four to five more will likely be added in the near future, with two of those lines expected to be finished this year.

Speaking to worries about cable damage, he also mentioned that Pakistan has the 97th-fastest internet in the world and explained that submarine cables are impenetrable to sharks.

According to the PTA chairman, the organization receives over 500 complaints about social media content every day, and the authority asks networks to restrict specific information.

Even though 80% of the content is banned, 20% of it is still available. Additionally, he stated that the Ministry of Interior has the authority to order PTA to follow the regulations.
